With the
aid of LFPR, Inc.'s public involvement team, the transportation department
has been able to establish awareness, solicit input and encourage participation
for their various projects. The SH-55 Smiths Ferry to Round Valley Alignment
Study is an excellent example of how LFPR, Inc. helped the transportation
department reach their goals of informing the public about the project,
soliciting their input and encouraging participation. To establish project
awareness, LFPR, Inc. created and mailed informational brochures to
stakeholders, provided news releases and story ideas to local media,
and placed ads in area newspapers. The public was asked to participate
in three public workshops. The purpose of the public workshops was to
identify issues, develop options and form a consensus on the desired
option(s). The public involvement process for this project has allowed
the public to develop options, provide input and ideas and to participate
in various meetings. The project is currently underway and the third
round of meetings are schedule to take place in 2001. Round three meetings
will focus on the public selecting their desired option(s). The public
involvement process for the SH-55 Smiths Ferry
to Round Valley Alignment Study project is unique in the sense that
it is continually evolving to meet the goals and objectives of our client
and the public. Once the public has selected their desired option(s),
the transportation department will have a sense of public opinion. This
information will be used to help guide the decision making |
